Gridley, CA A Charming Agricultural Community
Still small enough to provide a quiet country life-style, Gridley is large enough to offer the amenities and conveniences of much larger cities. The quaint community with population of just over 5,100 is located in the heart of the beautiful Sacramento Valley at the foot
of the world's smallest mountain range, the Sutter Buttes. Gridley is a convenient one-hour drive north of Sacramento. All forms of major transportation are readily accessed from Gridley. Butte County Transit provides inter-city transport to all the cities in Butte County.
Founder George W. Gridley made his way west around 1850, driving a herd of
sheep and cattle across the plains from Illinois. He lost his herd on that excursion, but found
the area that would become Gridley to be an attractive one. He soon established a 960-acre ranch and brought his wife, Helen, to California; they would later have a family of ten children. With the advent of the railroad, the town proper of Gridley was established in 1870. The city was incorporated in 1905.
Many turn of the century homes line picturesque Hazel Street, know as "Silk Stocking Row," which leads to Gridley's Historic Downtown Business District, West of Highway 99.

An outstanding combination of good climate, fertile soil and available water have made Gridley an agricultural haven.
Gridley is just 96 feet above sea level, with a mild climate. Average rainfall is 20 inches, with mild winters and warm, dry summers. A variety of crops, including rice, peaches, walnuts, kiwis, prunes, almonds and apples, are grown in the Gridley area.
Live Oak, CA
Live Oak is located in the heart of the fertile, scenic Sacramento Valley, California. Rich farmlands, beautiful orchards and the majestic Sutter Buttes surround this quiet, clean agricultural community.
The town is ideally located for easy access to Sacramento, the Bay Area, Lake Tahoe/Reno and a wide variety of recreational opportunities.
Just ten minutes west of Live Oak is the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, a sportsman's and naturalist's haven. Gray Lodge is an 84,000 acre wildlife area operated by the California Dept. of Fish and Game, and it offers one of the most intensively developed waterfowl marshlands in North America.
On the east end of Pennington Road is the Live Oak Riverfront Park with camping, picnicking and boat ramp access to the Feather River. The Feather River and the nearby Yuba and Sacramento Rivers offer excellent fishing and boating opportunities.
